Commodity Buyer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Drives improvement in BOS metrics (quality, delivery, service and cost) for specific commodities.
    • Manages commodity savings and strategies for areas of responsibility.
    • Champions cross-functional VA / VE and TVM activity between Tenneco and suppliers.
    • Provides day-to-day coaching support to other buyers on tactical and strategic issues.
    • Drives flawless launch strategy requirements for the supply base with all buyers on all programs.
    • Ensures teams are aligned with department and corporate goals, objectives and values.
    • Ability to assess issues and develop action plans to bring quick and effective resolution.
    • Drives activity to identify and source low cost country suppliers.
    • Prepares, presents and negotiates proposals and long-term commercial agreements in collaboration with Exec / Commodity Director.
    • Ensures department and suppliers comply with Purchasing policies and procedures.
    • Negotiates regional and global contracts.
    • Leads by example in terms of focus on detail, execution of tasks and professional interaction with both internal and external contacts.
    • Special projects as assigned by Purchasing leadership.
    • Aggressively pursues objectives and tasks.
    • Ensures buyers achieve commercial and timing objectives for launching programs.
    • Explores and exploits opportunities within the supply base to support Tenneco business objectives.
    • Comments on and defines need for action and drives accountability are aligned with supplier launch.
    • Attends program and management review meetings.
    • Other duties as required.
    • Develop and manage project plans in alignment with Front-End PE leader in Global regions.
    • Optimize resource allocation to maximize efficiency and productivity. Adhere to agreed KPIs and ensure project is ontrack with deliverables.
    • Support BOM management, ECN executions, VAVE and CI projects, TEN-Plus documentations, program status reporting to Regional PE

 

Experience: 12-14 Years

Education: BE in Mechanical Engineering & MBA is an additional advantage

 

 

Skills:

  • Must possess leadership qualities, excellent communication skills, strong negotiation abilities, excellent decision-making skills and sound analytical ability.
  • Strong leader of cross-functional teams.
  • Corporate SCM experience with international business desired (LCC preferred.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and proven success working under pressure driving projects to closure.
  • Familiarity with drawings, specifications, materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work with all levels of the organization within multiple cross-functional areas.
  • Solid computer and organizational skills.
  • Must possess excellent analytical ability.

 

Travel:

  • Ability to travel as required (estimate 30-50%).

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Vision abilities required include close vision.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
