Internal Job Title:      Engineering Technician, Test Operations

Job Description:

Candidate will work an off shift (second shift 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM or third shift 11:30 PM to 7:30 AM) in the Engineering Test Department. Work consists of conducting development and validation tests of exhaust components/systems. The position is hands-on and requires some technical and analytical background or aptitude to conduct testing and troubleshoot equipment or instrument failures. Testing will support aftertreatment component program launch for passenger car and truck, heavy duty truck, off-highway vehicle, locomotive, and potentially marine applications.  The candidate will be trained for the initial test lab assignment and potentially cross-train for additional areas of the Test Department.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Set-up test samples, sensors, test rig control, and acquisition hardware/software and acquire test data per work instructions, engineer direction and/or customer specifications.
  • Assess general test data validity with respect to test request requirements and report test data to internal program and validation engineers.
  • Help troubleshoot and service facility, hardware, and software issues that interrupt testing.
  • Maintain test log sheets for area of responsibility and communicate daily shift results to next shift personnel.
  • Support continuous improvement activity involving test rig to improve test efficiency, capacity, and cost.
  • Support and adhere to environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures as well as the corporate Code of Conduct.

Required Skills:

  • Moderate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with internal and external test requesters.
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere and execute complex tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift and physically manipulate exhaust system components and test fixtures.
  • Knowledge in LabVIEW, STARS, INCA, and/or ATI-Vision a plus.

Required Education / Experience:

  • Certification (or higher) in a relevant technology discipline   

or   

2  years of experience working in a comparable test environment

  • Preferred experience in component development and validation testing with comparable testing.
  • Preferred experience with engine maintenance, exhaust systems, and fabrication is also a plus.
