Cost Estimator

 

Location: Hodkovice and Mohelkou, Czechia

Work mode: 3/2 HO/week

 

In this role, you will analyze and develop comprehensive product cost calculations, serving as a key input for customer quotations and internal cost improvement activities. You will collaborate with cross-functional program teams to deliver accurate cost estimations, leveraging both internal data and industry knowledge.

 

The Cost Estimator is ultimately accountable for all costing activities within their business unit and for maintaining compliance with the Tenneco CER process. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all costing projections.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop cost calculations including material, labor, overheads, tooling, and capital for new products during RFI, RFQ, and VAVE/DtC-DtV phases.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Sales, Program Management, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality to deliver accurate cost estimates.

  • Manage costing timelines and resource allocation, ensuring high-quality results within deadlines.

  • Support cost reduction initiatives during the RFI/RFQ phases and for serial production parts as needed.

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all cost calculations and related documentation using designated costing process software.

  • Participate in benchmarking activities related to design, process, and production locations.

  • Provide detailed cost analyses to support internal and external negotiations.

  • Contribute to "Make vs. Buy" decisions by providing cost-related inputs to senior management (MET, Purchasing) for integration into overall estimations.

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing, MET, Program Management, Engineering, Finance, or cost estimation.

  • Proficiency in costing/accounting methods and procedures.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to engage effectively across various organizational levels.

  • Strong team player with a sense of urgency.

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in manufacturing process development and cycle time evaluation.

  • Expertise in cost analysis, value stream analysis, and manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to read blueprints and 3D data, with experience estimating costs based on these inputs.

  • Advanced computer skills, particularly in SAP and MS Office (especially Excel).

  • Proficiency in a second language.

  • Global experience and/or automotive industry experience.

  • Familiarity with costing software, databases, or data processing systems.

  • Experience in program and business processes (e.g., PM and Sales procedures).
