SUMMARY: The Shipping and Receiving Specialist will be responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing materials, supplies, and equipment, as well as preparing items for shipment. This role consolidates responsibilities from the Receiving, Stockroom, and Shipping positions to create a more efficient workflow in the facility. Key responsibilities include verifying incoming and outgoing shipments, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accountable for creating a quality product.
- Participates in training to produce a quality product and uses preventative measures to ensure the customer requirements and standards are met.
- Comply with legal and other requirements to avoid injury and/ill health to themselves and others.
- Commitment to safety standards and adherence to company policies
- Understands preventative measures and creates a safe environment by having the ability to identify potential emergency situations and reports all incidents to supervisor/ manager.
- Adhere to the facility’s quality, environmental, health and safety policies that are identified by the management systems and outlined in ISO/TS 1649, OSHA 18001 and ISO14001.
- Verify shipments by comparing identifying information such as counts, weights, and measurements with purchase orders, invoices, and packing slips.
- Record receiving data in SAP and other systems.
- Sort and place received items on racks, shelves, or bins according to size, type, or other predetermined criteria.
- Monitor product quality using inspection tools like scales and visual aids.
- Verify shipments by comparing identifying information such as counts, weights, and measurements with purchase orders, invoices, and packing slips.
- Record receiving data in SAP and other systems.
- Sort and place received items on racks, shelves, or bins according to size, type, or other predetermined criteria.
- Monitor product quality using inspection tools like scales and visual aids.
- Prepare items for shipment, including labeling, banding, and shrink-wrapping as needed.
- Ensure outgoing shipments meet specifications by verifying information against bills of lading, invoices, and production schedules.
- Assemble and select containers for shipping and load/unload shipments using forklifts, hoists, and hand jacks.
- Store materials and supplies in designated locations, following company organization standards.
- Maintain stock records and perform cycle counting to verify SAP inventory levels.
- Issue supplies from the stockroom to production workers and keep records of materials issued.
- Drive forklifts and operate other material-handling equipment to move shipments between receiving, storage, and production areas.
- Achieve forklift certification and perform daily safety checks on forklifts.
- Use computer systems to maintain inventory levels and track the movement of materials.
- Monitor scrap and nonconforming parts to determine causes of failures and take corrective action.
- Conduct cycle counts on raw materials and consumables to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Maintain a clean and orderly warehouse, stockroom, and work area, including sweeping daily.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment.
- Communicate with relevant departments regarding incoming shipments, inventory levels, and shipment schedules.
- Relay information and special instructions accurately and promptly to affected team members and departments.
- Assist or fill in for the stockroom clerk as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Work overtime as required, which may be mandated.
- Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor / management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Minimum of one-year related experience and/or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills. Ability to operate forklifts, hand jacks, and hoists (must achieve certification)
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates and ratios. Knowledge of metric system.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Employee must be highly motivated with ability to work independently yet be an effective team player. Employee must have above average mechanical ability as well as strong organizational skill with a high attention to detail. Proficiency in using SAP or other inventory management software is a must.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
