SUMMARY: The primary responsibility is the procurement of indirect goods and services used by the manufacturing facility. The SR Buyer will have the authority to procure goods and services using company funds in the most effective and efficient manner conducting business according to Tenneco’s highest standards of Ethics and Values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs and coordinates activities of personnel engaged in purchasing and distributing raw materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies
- Prepares instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures.
- Training employees on the purchasing processes and systems
- Negotiates contracts for outside services, sub-contract, and materials.
- Prepares and issues purchase orders and change notices for capital equipment.
- Responsible for sourcing, procuring, and managing the materials and components necessary for production.
- Maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Managing inventory levels to optimize stock turnover and reduce holding costs.
- Track and follow up with vendors and suppliers regarding on-time delivery and open PO’s to ensure business request are met in a timely manner
- Investigate and gather information needed in the resolution of receiving, pricing, quality and other discrepancies with suppliers.
- Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports.
- Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
- Efficient and accurate data entry of purchasing data to ensure all files reflect business planning needs
- Maintain proper audit documentation by obtaining, reviewing, and filing documents related to the purchasing process
- Report out on key metrics such as inventory turns, supplier pricing, and plant spend
- Arranges for disposal of surplus materials
- Responsible for ensuring a quality product is being produced by the plant that meets customer requirements and Tenneco standards.
- Responsible for working safely, adhering to the facility’s environmental, health and safety policies and procedures to avoid injury to themselves and others. Comply with legal and other requirements.
- Monitors the work environment to identify and communicate to supervisor / manager current or potential environmental, health or safety concerns.
- Understands preventative measures and creates a safe environment by identifying and reporting potential emergency situations to the supervisor/ manager.
- Perform other tasks, duties or projects as assigned by management
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree Business or Supply Chain or equivalent certifications from college or technical school in a related function; and/or three or more years of related experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and write English. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
High Level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Ability to adapt to new software and upgrades. Must be independently motivated and a self-starter. Must have demonstrated follow-through skills. Must be able to maintain all information in the Human Resources office on a confidential basis. Working knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems a plus.
