Summary:

The Maintenance and Toolroom Manager is a key leadership position with significant responsibility and decision-making authority. This role is essential to the success of plant operations—leading maintenance and toolroom teams, ensuring equipment reliability, and supporting safe, efficient production. The manager also oversees toolroom operations that supply external customers through quoting and machining services, making this a highly visible and impactful role both inside and outside the plant. At times, this position requires extended workdays to ensure the facility remains fully operational and production goals are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary decision-maker for maintenance and toolroom operations, balancing immediate needs with long-term plant objectives.
  • Oversee maintenance and toolroom staff; set clear expectations and provide ongoing coaching.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret maintenance and toolroom data to establish meaningful KPIs, monitor trends, and drive continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve a preventive maintenance (PM) program for maintenance and toolroom operations, ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and incorporating feedback and best practices for ongoing effectiveness.
  • Manage toolroom operations, including tool inventory, calibration, repair, and fabrication.
  • Oversee all preventive and corrective maintenance activities for plant equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure timely troubleshooting and repair of equipment to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Oversee quoting and machining operations for external customers, ensuring timely, accurate quotes and high-quality service delivery.
  • Coordinate with external customers to understand requirements, provide quotes, and deliver finished machined products.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules, work orders, and documentation using the plant’s operating system.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and EHS teams to support operational goals and safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and manage maintenance and toolroom budgets, including spare parts inventory and procurement.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and equipment reliability.
  • Support capital projects, equipment installations, and facility upgrades as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and generate reports on maintenance activities, downtime, toolroom output, and KPIs.
  • Be available for extended workdays or off-shift support as needed to maintain plant operations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in management or a related field within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in machining.
  • Proven experience in maintenance management within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience managing toolroom operations, including quoting and machining for external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office platform.
  • Strong customer service orientation and communication skills for external client interactions.
  • Excellent problem-solving, planning, and organizational abilities.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to adjust work schedule and provide support during weekends, holidays, or other non-standard hours based on operational requirements.
