JOB TITLE:         HVAC Mechanic


SUPERVISOR:    Building Maintenance Supervisor


FLSA STATUS:   Non-exempt





Repairs and maintains compressed air systems, boiler systems, fume incineration systems, vacuum systems, air conditioning systems and energy management systems. Is responsible for physical plant well being; roofs, walls, floors, piping systems, etc. Assists and directs other building staff employees on limited project work requirements.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions as defined by the ADA, except those that begin with the word ‘may”.)


  1. Training requirements as listed in Federal Mogul Skokie EHSSP0006 and EHSSP 0048 control documents for maintenance employees.


  1. Follows safety rules, participates in safety meetings, notifies supervisor of unsafe conditions and events hazardous to others or the environment.


  1. Completes paperwork correctly and legibly


  1. Maintains work area in a safe manner


  1. Technical skills to operate hand and power tools to work safely in a maintenance environment


  1. Ability to work under less than perfect conditions such as outside in inclement weather for extended periods of time.


  1. Visually inspects and listens to equipment may use instruments to detect cause of malfunction


  1. Valid truck drivers license.


  1. Follows the Quality Management System requirements as outlined in the process notes on the press card, the applicable QMS procedures and work instructions; and suggests ways for continual improvement.


  1. Promptly reports quality problems and shuts down the equipment if unable to resolve.


  1. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.


  1. Follows EHS rules and regulations, participates in safety meetings and CBT, and suggests ways for continual improvement.


  1. Promptly reports personal injuries and unsafe conditions and helps to resolve them.


  1. Performs related duties as assigned.

















  1. Knowledgeable of facility layout plants utility locations and their operations.


  1. Follows safety rules, participates in safety meetings, notifies supervisor of unsafe conditions an event hazardous to others and the environment.


  1. Completes paperwork correctly and legibly.


  1. Able to work independently of others with minimal supervision.


  1. Ability to read and understand press cards, procedures, work instructions, safety rules and warning signs


  1. Ability to read and write well enough to perform mathematical calculations required repairing equipment.


  1. Analytical abilities necessary to plan and prioritize own work complete work on schedule and maintain required records and logs.


  1. Interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information verbally and written with a variety of staff.


  1. Licensed lift truck driver.





  1. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds.


  1. Ability to walk and move about, bend stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb (ascend and descend) ladders and work in stationary positions for long periods of time.


  1. Normal or corrected vision necessary to read directions closely examines parts and distinguishes colors.


  1. Normal hearing to detect equipment malfunctions.





  1. Works in areas that are uncomfortable, hot, cold, dirty, dusty, and noisy for extended periods of time.


  1. Works regularly with machine where carelessness could result in cuts bruises burns muscle pulls etc.
