Job Description

Summary: Operate and setup all stations at canning lines. Be able to perform troubleshooting and analysis to ensure proper operation. Assist other Canning Line Operators as needed. There are two levels denoted C1, and C2, with C2 being the highest. Note: All requirements listed without a C2 following the requirement are requirements of all positions including C1.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Safely setup and operate the canning line, providing stuffed can’s that meets all specifications for both internal and external customers, Be able to perform daily safety checks on overhead lifting devices.

 

  1. Be able to scan barcodes, write down part numbers, and log into warehouse tracking system to ensure each part, or skid is in the correct location both physically and in the SAP.

 

  1. Perform Canning line changeovers, and setups. Be able to perform minor repairs and adjustments to the equipment during this process.

 

  1. Complete all tasks required by Inspection Report. Be able to use all required gages to perform said work. (C1)

 

  1. Be able to run and setup both CL1 and CL2. (C2).

 

  1. Inform Supervisor or Engineer of any material discrepancies (substrate or shell defects) or shortages (lack of shells, substates, and mat). Understand criticality of defects and learn solutions to reduce defects or more easily detect them.

 

  1. Keep canning line and surrounding area clean and inform Supervisor of any safety hazards. Place scrap/trash into proper receptacles both inside and outside the building.

 

  1. Knowledge of machine setup parameters. How to correctly edit C-Coefficient, Stuffing Depth, Top Hat and Lower Support positions etc. (C2)

 

  1. Ability to hit established change over times. (C2)

 

  1. Ability to achieve an OEE of 90% or higher. (C2)

 

  1. Make appropriate repairs as necessary. If repairs are beyond skill level or standard repairs on the equipment, notify Supervisor for issuance of a maintenance work order.  Verify proper operation after repair is completed.

Education and/or Experience                                             

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Experience with HMI (C1)

Understanding of 5S (C1)

Mechanical Ability (C1)

Experience with Robots (C2)

 

Language Skills                                                      

Ability to read English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

 

Mathematical Skills                                               

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability                                                   

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills

Must be computer literate and be able to use a calculator and keypad barcode scanner.

 

Other Skills and Abilities   

Ability to fill out paper work (tags, codes, forms, reports, etc)

Ability to read and understand an invoice, inventory paperwork/printout, and shipping/stock transfer tags.

Understand, follow and know the location of operator and safety instructions.

Ability to use Lockout/Tagout program.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and risk of radiation. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

While performing this position, the following are job specific safety requirements: While on the Manufacturing floor, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and safety shoes must be worn.

 

Environmental aspects of this job would include use of electrical/pneumatic energy, paper/paper products, generating waste paper, scrap steel, greases, oils, lubricants, glue, fiberglass and the proper disposal of said products.
