Job Description:
The Material Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting analytical or physical tests and ensuring that the test data is of the utmost integrity. The test programs are organized and submitted to the technicians by the manager of materials development, or the materials engineers. The Material Laboratory Technician is responsible for actively participating in issues concerning the Materials Development Team; contributes to maintaining a clean and safe work environment in the laboratory as well as assists in providing laboratory tours and test explanations to laboratory guests.
Job Requirements:
- Capable of preparing appropriate test specimens for various tests.
- Familiarity and understanding of ASTM and SAE test procedures
- Capable of conducting tests using basic laboratory equipment such as cure meters, stress-strain testers, hardness testers, and environmental testing under assistance of a more senior lab technician.
- Can perform mathematical calculations if formula or equation is provided, capable of identifying erratic and suspect data.
- Must have familiarity with all laboratory software
- Maintains clean and safe work area in the laboratory.
- Ability to assist with giving laboratory tours to laboratory guests.
- Capable of training coworkers, co-ops, interns, and new hires. Capable of providing support as requested by supervisor.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED, or Associate Degree (A.S.).
- Math aptitude for performing basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division is required.
- Chemistry aptitude is preferable
Experience:
- 0-2 years minimum of relevant work experience required
- Previous testing/ laboratory experience is a plus
