As the Labor Relations Manager for our Powertrain division, you will play a pivotal role in the labor relations support and strategy for the division. This position requires an experienced HR professional with comprehensive knowledge of labor relations in a manufacturing or comparable setting.
Essential Functions:
- Support all union sites in managing labor relations and ensuring compliance with union agreements.
- Drive continuous improvement in relationships with unions across all plants.
- Foster positive employee relations to support a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Mediate and resolve labor disputes, ensuring fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Collaborate with plant managers to implement and sustain labor relations strategies.
- Develop and deliver training programs on labor relations practices and policies.
- Monitor and report on labor relations issues, trends, and developments.
- Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements in all labor relations activities.
- Train Non-Union sites in union avoidance and positive employee relations.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a point of contact for union representatives and plant managers on escalated labor relations matters.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with union leaders and representatives.
- Provide guidance and support to management on labor relations issues and contract interpretation.
- Lead negotiations for collective bargaining agreements and labor contracts.
- Improve and manage grievance procedures and employee disciplinary actions.
- Collaborate with HR and legal teams to ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.
- Prepare and present reports on labor relations activities to senior management.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in labor relations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in labor relations, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Proven track record of managing labor relations in a unionized environment.
- Strong understanding of labor laws and regulations.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to travel as needed to various plant locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
- Experience in the manufacturing industry.
- Certification in labor relations or related field.
- Proficiency in HRIS and other relevant software.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
