Job Description:

 

This is an engineering customer service position. The Application Engineer serves as the lead engineering contact, collaborating with the Account Manager, Design & Analysis, Manufacturing Plants and other functions to deliver essential customer services. The specific approach to fulfilling these responsibilities may vary based on business needs and individual skills; the result will always be superior customer service and business advancement.

 

The Application Engineer is responsible for establishing the respective product line (In this case Pistons) as a leader in providing technology-driven solutions and delivering cost/margin improvements. This role involves performing necessary job functions to fully support customer projects, which in turn must generate increasing revenues and earnings for Tenneco. The primary role of the application engineer is to act as the technical product expert, interfacing with appropriate technical counterparts within the customer's organization.

 

 

Positiion Requirements & Responsibilites:

 

  • Support Project Manager for APQP documentation/Customer Program Development (APQP).
  • Travel to support customers and to support/develop new opportunities.
  • Work with Product Engineers & Designers to conceptualize design solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Act as the voice of the customer regarding Product Design review prior to presentation to the customer.
  • Support Request for Quotes (RFQ) and Sample Order (SO) processes.
  • Review and cascade Verification and Validation Testing to meet customer expectations and minimize project costs and timing.
  • Initiate analysis of returned product from EOT (End of Test) or field and draft report.
  • Basic problem-solving skills: ability to methodically organize a root cause investigation for End of Test results or field returned parts.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing facilities to assure manufacturability of design.
  • Manage customer requests and expectations to ensure a positive perception of Tenneco.
  • Support Account Managers to develop specific customer account strategies.
  • Actively participate in achieving corporate and divisional goals and objectives related to quality, cost, scrap, profit, productivity, customer service, and adherence to budget.
  • Working knowledge of internal and customer systems.
  • Prepare and give detailed technical customer presentations based on template and/or input from higher-level Application Engineers.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
  • Communicate changing marketplace needs internally to aid in defining and releasing new products and materials.

  • Ability to lead a team to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to provide support or take a lead role in minor advanced engineering projects.
  • Ability to be self-directed and direct the engineering activities of a program.
  • Develop working knowledge of Powertrain components and systems.
  • General knowledge of engine performance and test methods as it relates to Powertrain systems.General knowledge of statistics, CAE, and other analysis methods.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent/higher experience

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience, however more is preferred
  • Previous applicable Powertrain experience preferred
