Job Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for planning, optimizing, and improving piston manufacturing processes, ensuring high-quality output, cost efficiency, and adherence to safety and compliance standards. The role involves hands-on experience with machining, forging, casting, and assembly processes commonly used in piston production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1. Process Engineering & Optimization

  • Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for piston machining, finishing, and assembly.
  • Analyze cycle times, reduce waste, and drive continuous improvement using Lean, Kaizen, and Six Sigma principles.
  • Create and update process flow diagrams, SOPs, work instructions, and PFMEAs.

2. Manufacturing Operations Support

  • Provide day-to-day support to production lines to achieve productivity, quality, and efficiency targets.
  • Troubleshoot process deviations, quality issues, and equipment failures.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and quality teams for root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

3. Tooling, Fixtures & Equipment

  • Design and develop jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, and gauges for piston manufacturing.
  • Work with vendors on procurement, trials, and validation of new tools or machines.
  • Ensure proper calibration, maintenance schedules, and capability studies for equipment.

4. Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with ISO/TS standards and internal quality systems.
  • Conduct capability studies (Cp, Cpk), MSA, and periodic validations of critical processes.
  • Support new part development (PPAP/APQP) and documentation.

5. Cost & Productivity Improvement

  • Identify and implement cost-reduction initiatives related to materials, tooling, manpower, scrap, and rework.
  • Improve OEE, yield, and machine utilization through data-driven decision making.

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with R&D, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams for new product introductions (NPI).
  • Support pilot runs, trials, and engineering changes related to piston designs or manufacturing methods.

 

 

 

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or Experience.
  •  working extensively on AutoCAD and 3D CAD software like CREO for tooling/fixture design and process engineering.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of piston manufacturing processes—machining (CNC/lathe), forging/casting basics, honing, coating, and finishing.
  • Experience with CNC programming, process validation, and tooling design.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Familiarity with quality tools: APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced production environments.
