Tenneco is seeking a Privacy Compliance Director to support global privacy compliance initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.

This is a highly hands-on execution role. The Privacy Compliance Director is expected to personally perform the core privacy compliance activities described below. Success in this role requires speed, sound judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to deliver practical outcomes in a dynamic, globally distributed environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in all the listed domains, be able to execute with minimal supervision and thrive in a face-paced environment.

The position may be based in Illinois or Michigan and reports directly to the Chief Privacy Officer of the company.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership support on the implementation of strategies to ensure strong personal data governance, privacy by design and default implementation, and data protection.
  • Monitor global privacy landscape, track changes and map changes to existing privacy controls. Monitor and measure program effectiveness and develop metrics for decision making.
  • Proactively build strong working relationships with Legal, HR, IT, Security, Procurement, and business leadership to embed privacy requirements into real-world operations and drive adoption of the privacy program.
  • Individually define, build, document, and implement data governance processes and privacy controls, including drafting artifacts, advising stakeholders directly, and operationalizing requirements across regions.
  • Direct and conduct compliance monitoring activities across different regions following Tenneco’s Privacy Compliance Framework and Controls and provide leadership direction and solutions for improvements.
  • Develop, negotiate, and maintain DPAs, TIAs, PIA, LIAs, and other cross-border data transfer mechanisms.
  • Independently manage and execute multiple privacy initiatives in parallel under tight timelines, with frequently changing priorities, and limited supporting resources.
  • Oversee data privacy impact assessments (DPIAs), records of processing activities, and other regulatory activities. Lead privacy by design and default initiatives into processing activities.
  • Personally lead privacy compliance projects across multiple regions and be accountable for outcomes.
  • Manage the lifecycle of the third-party risk management program for privacy ensuring accountability.
  • Perform privacy training across various regions and at the enterprise.
  • Manage the lifecycle of all privacy notices, policies, and procedures by drafting, amending, and publishing changes to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Manage and develop a team of privacy professionals while remaining personally accountable for the execution of core privacy compliance activities.
  • Perform all other tasks and activities assigned from time to time such as the management of privacy incidents, third-party risk management privacy reviews, to advance privacy compliance, data protection and privacy by design and default objectives.

Minimum Requirements

  • 12–15+ years of progressive experience in privacy, data governance, or compliance roles, with demonstrated hands-on execution in enterprise environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of global privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, PIPL, LGPD).
  • Proven hands-on experience managing privacy programs and compliance initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.
  • Demonstrated experience personally executing privacy compliance activities in complex, fast-paced enterprise environments.
  • Experience operating with limited direction or structure and taking ownership from problem identification through implementation.
  • Strong project-management experience and skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced multi-national environment.
  • One or more recognized privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CIPT) required. Certifications in data protection, security, compliance a plus.
  • J.D. or law license is required.
