This position is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end payroll processing while staying in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The Payroll Supervisor ensures the delivery of world-class customer service to internal and external customers, including the support of company policies. The position may be based in Northville, Michigan and reports directly to the Payroll Manager of the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the end-to-end payroll process ensuring timely and accurate payments to employees.
- Review and verify payroll data, including timekeeping, deductions, bonuses, and adjustments ensuring they align with company and regulatory policy.
- Understand payroll administration policies, procedures, and goals. This includes maintaining and applying current internal control standards to ensure regulatory and company compliance.
- Review systems and employee data to ensure compliance and support business needs.
- Develop repeatable and ad hoc financial and operational reporting.
- Prepare the timely distribution of payroll reports and documentation as directed.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations by studying existing and new legislation and advising management on needed actions.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, Tax, and other departments to provide insight and support to foster a supportive culture and supportive team environment.
- Assist with payroll system setup and configuration and required updates.
- Assist with testing of payroll systems to ensure they have been correctly configured.
- Create documentation of SOPs, practices, payroll setup and system configuration.
- Analyze current payroll processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
- Ensure internal controls audits are in place via new or existing audits and complete weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual audits as implemented.
- Supervise the processing of wage garnishments to ensure compliance.
- Provide support of payroll processing for ex-patriot employees, employees with visas and work authorizations, to ensure payments comply with regulations.
- Communicate effectively with all employees, stakeholders, and business partners.
- Assist with payroll projects.
- Set up and maintain the accuracy of tax profiles for all U.S. salaried employees.
- Function as backup for payroll administrators on PTO, LOA, etc.
- Supervise and provide guidance to payroll team including training, performance reviews, and workload distribution.
- Support the Payroll Manager with year-end activities, objectives, new/changes to processes, and communications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience.
Experience: 5 - 9 Years of Payroll Lead/Analyst experience (multi-state payrolls)
Skills
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state taxes/regulations
- Strong accounting skills
- Highly organized and meticulous
- Proficient in MS Excel
