The Materials Technician supports testing, analysis, and development of rubber, phosphate, adhesives, platings, and coatings used in NVH components. This role coordinates both internal and external testing activities, maintains accurate documentation, and ensures all materials meet performance requirements. The long‑term development goal for this position is to support business unit engineering by recommending appropriate adhesive systems based on formulation and substrate needs, assisting with rubber formulation selection, and supporting returned part analysis.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform chemical analyses and physical testing on materials—including new raw materials and new suppliers—to determine suitability for PS NVH anti‑vibration products.
- Operate analytical and metallurgical laboratory equipment with proficiency.
- Coordinate calibration schedules and ensure routine maintenance of laboratory instruments.
- Prepare accurate, timely reports and maintain precise documentation of all testing performed.
- Maintain compliance with established data retention and record‑keeping systems.
- Engage and communicate with suppliers to coordinate external testing for rubber compounds, phosphate, platings, coatings, or related materials.
- Support documentation and maintenance of elastomer formulation compounds for the Milan laboratory and low‑volume production.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures, including Quality Management System requirements, KPI tracking, Lean methodologies, and Environmental Health & Safety practices.
- Input change notices and track revisions to internal documentation, including PS and MS specifications.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional partners including supplier quality, purchasing, warranty, test lab, and others as needed.
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate degree with 2 years of technical experience, or 6 years of relevant technical experience.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong focus on quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Proficient with computers and spreadsheet software.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to present findings clearly and professionally.
- Self‑motivated and able to drive tasks to completion while identifying obstacles proactively.
