JOB SUMMARY:
Develop welding techniques, welding procedures, and the application of welding equipment to the problems involving fabrication of metals. Provide support to all functional areas where Welding, tooling, maintenance, and fixturing process technology expertise.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct and coordinate technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards including the testing for integrity. Manage documentation of results tracking/analysis
- Directly support TS16949, APQP / product launch management process and other applicable procedures and policies.
- Maintain current process standards and develop new standards for emerging process technology.
- Develop and Implement projects to enhance existing process technology to improve quality and reduce manufacturing cost.
- Design and develop prototype tooling to support and evaluate new or revised manufacturing processes.
- Responsible for welding development for all new and existing products and standardizing the processes throughout the facility.
- Assist in the development and technically evaluate capital purchases of new welding equipment and modifications of current equipment to utilize developed processes.
- Perform design of experiments and lead the development of prototype welding projects to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
- Prepare technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations.
- Establish welding specification for release into production and assist welding personnel relating to specification restrictions and material processes.
- Contact engineering personnel, personnel of other agencies, or clients to exchange ideas and information or to offer technical advice concerning welding matters.
- Manage and maintain the weld supplies for our robotic, manual and automatic welders.
- Manage CQI15 requirements to meet customer requirements
- Create / participate in development of design and process FMEA’s.
- Anticipate and analyze customers’ needs for new welding technologies and formulate a recommendation for their design and development.
- Support manufacturing with launch and continuous improvement activities.
- Support maintenance team with training and addressing welding process/machine issues
- Attend training sessions, seminars, and conferences to expand job knowledge and skills repertoire.
- Support and adhere to Tenneco EH&S policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus 7 yrs experience, or Advanced degree with 5 years’ experience
- Experience in robotics, manufacturing process development, weld fixture design, weld equipment setup/implementation, tooling/gage design, and equipment procurement.
- Hands on technical knowledge of welding (Mig, Laser, Projection, Spot, Tig, etc.) design.
- Experience with fabricating and assembly technologies a plus
- Self-motivated with good written and verbal communication skills, ability to effectively prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations
- Ability to function and lead in a team environment and to effectively communicate across various levels of the organization
- Ability to travel on occasion
