Quality Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Provide technical support to all areas of the plant in assessment, implementation and maintenance of Quality systems that meet or exceed customer and IATF16949 standards.  Assist in formal problem-solving activities.  Facilitate continuous improvement in product quality, cost, and customer satisfaction.  Ensure quality of products through engineering and statistical practices to maintain and improve manufacturing process controls.  Must be able to work with all plant disciplines, customers, and suppliers.  Individuals needs to be self-motivated, aggressive, and able to work well with others. Individual must be able to work any shift needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide training in quality systems and related areas such as APQP, BOS, Problem Solving, SPC, etc.
2. Interface with process engineering, manufacturing plants and customers on new product/process launches
3. Responsible for APQP and Warranty
4. Develop, maintain, and improve documents in accordance with IATF16949 standards
5. Assist in the development of process flow diagrams; control plans and inspection, gage and operator instructions including gage R&R studies, CPH analysis, containment documentation
6. Perform quality audits, evaluate trends, and support corrective action activities
7. Interface with suppliers to coordinate action on failure issues on parts and services
8. Employee must perform his/her job within acceptable safety, environmental, quality, productivity and performance standards as outlined in plant policies, handbooks, and applicable work instructions.
9. Develop data handling process to efficiently retrieve, store, and analyze data
10. Provide support and knowledge of Quality Systems to plant personnel
11. Conduct statistical analysis on product capabilities
12. Interface with process engineering and manufacturing new product/process launches

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Support and adhere to TA EH&S policies and procedures
2. Participating in the PPAP, process and PSW runs
3. Provide technical knowledge to production area as well as all support quality, engineering and other departments
4. Perform quality audits, evaluate trends and support corrective action activities
5. Create and mentor report activities when necessary
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office:  Excel, Word, PowerPoint
7. Knowledge and experience in auditing

CRITICAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be degreed.
• 5+ years’ experience in the automotive industry or equivalent of combination of education and experience
• Experience with IATF16949 (PPAP, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans)
• Specific customer learned requirements for FORD include, 1.0 Global Phased PPAP requirements, 1.1 Ford specifics requirements to use with PPAP, 1.2 Ford Customer Specifics to use with IATF16949. 1.3 Q1 assessment requirements, 1.4 Access to Ford Supplier Portal: SIM, 1.5 SREA process requirements, 1.6 IMDS instructions, 1.7 E108 (Branding directive)  instructions, 1.8 Form 2973, 1.9 Process Flow and PFMEA guide, 2.0 Control Plans, 2.1 Labeling and Packaging Instructions, 2.2 QR disputes, 2.2 SCCAF Instructions, 2.3 APQP Workbook Instructions, 2.4 GD&T knowledge,2.5 GR&R Studies, 2.6 Capacity Analysis Report, 2.7 WERS, 2.8 Alerts, 2.9 PVP&R,  Understanding of the Quality Operating System Methodology, Understanding of the 8D Methodology,
• Good computer skills
• Good written and oral communications skills
• Must be able to work under minimal supervision

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Office environment – includes, but not limited to, artificial lighting, computers, telephones, desks, temperature controlled.
• Manufacturing environment – includes, but not limited to, artificial lighting, machine/equipment noise, some welding exhaust, non-controlled temperatures, and PPE required.
• Some travel which could include an overnight stay.
• Must be able to work at the supplier’s facility as needed
• Must be able to change work pace as needed in response to customer or plant needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to sit frequently for extended periods of time.
• Ability to move about the plant in both the office and manufacturing areas.
• Ability to travel occasionally.
• Manual dexterity for computer work.
• Ability to communicate in an effective manner.
• Must be able to visit customers on short notice as the needs arise
• Must be able to work a flexible work schedule
• Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs
