Primary Purpose
Perform all material handling and shipping & receiving functions in a very efficient manner. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the shipping and receiving department including all transactions done in SAP and lead the Materials department personnel assigned to the shift.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for all shipping and receiving functions in SAP.
- Perform all material handling functions.
- Responsible for upkeep and conditions of all forklifts. If a fix is needed, they will notify their supervisor on shift.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations and training of shipping personnel
- Shift to shift pass down/handoff.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintain quality standards.
- Perform 5S activities.
- Observe all safety rules and regulations.
- Maintain shipping and receiving department files.
- Work closely with Materials team and shipping and receiving team to assure customer deliveries are shipped on schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to operate forklift and must keep valid license for position.
- Knowledge of forklift safety regulations
- Ability to read, write and understand directions, shipping/receiving paperwork and complete shipping audit, U-tags, etc.
- Must have the ability to read and comprehend written instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Must have the ability to effectively present information orally and in writing.
- Computer skills, specifically within Windows based office programs
- Basic SAP skills particularly in shipping/receiving and/or ability to learn.
- Flexibility to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to work overtime as needed (sometimes on short notice).
- Ability to work without direct supervision but respond to directions/requests and perform effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to train new employees that come to the shift.
- Core competencies include Quality Focus, Communications, Personal Development, and Technical/functions expertise.
- Must demonstrate competence on a continuous basis through testing, training, and communication.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Industrial or manufacturing experience with 12 months of floor operation experience preferred.
- One (1) year of forklift experience required.
- One (1) year prior shipping and receiving experience preferred.
- Ability to become Tenneco forklift certified is required.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment – includes, but not limited to, artificial lighting, machine/equipment noise, mechanical parts, some welding exhaust, non-controlled temperatures, and PPE required.
- Occasionally exposed to vibration.
- Warehouse, Dock, and Plant areas- includes, but not limited to, exposure to outside weather and some constricted work areas and pathways.
- Fast-paced work environment
Physical Demands:
- Extensive sitting and climbing on and off forklifts.
- Good visual ability
- Some pushing and pulling.
- Ability to move about the plant and walk 15-20 feet multiple times per normal shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to raise and lower dock plates with one arm up to 150 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include color-coding distinction, close vision, distance vision and depth perception.
