This position assists the company’s Corporate Tax function in the management of US and Canadian Indirect Taxes (sales & use tax/VAT, property tax, business licenses). The position is a key contributor to our tax team and to the company’s continued growth. The successful candidate is someone who proactively identifies problems, develops options, and effectively makes decisions under pressure, seeking input from affected stakeholders. This person is comfortable with ambiguity and prioritizes based on the analysis of the situation and/or review of relevant and available data. The person is intellectually curious and focuses on their continued development.  The position may be based in Gurgaon, India and reports directly to the Indirect Tax Manager of the company.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and filing sales and use tax returns for the US and Canada, including gathering and organizing information
  • Analyze data to determine accuracy of accruals
  • Prepare journal entries to adjust liability accounts
  • Prepare business license returns
  • Provide sales tax exemption certificates
  • Respond to notices from taxing jurisdictions
  • Adhere to the tax compliance calendar
  • Assist with sales and use tax audits
  • Evaluate and implement process improvements to increase speed of process and accuracy of information
  • Participate in and support other projects as assigned

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field

Experience: 2+ years of US/Canada Sales & Use Tax/VAT compliance experience

Skills

  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage complex projects
  • Ability to research, analyze scenarios, adapt thinking as needed, and recommend appropriate steps to address tax and business challenges
  • Quantitative skills (e.g., ability to create and/or review Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides)
  • Flexibility and adaptability – the ability to deal with changing internal and external environments
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work collaboratively with others as an effective, responsive partner
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently use Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Power Bi, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Experience utilizing “ETL” tools such as Alteryx
  • Experience filing US monthly, quarterly, and annual sales & use tax returns in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience with ERPs such as SAP, Plex Systems, QAD
  • Experience with sales/use tax determination software Vertex (O Series) and Avalara AvaTax
  • Experience with Vertex O Series Taxability Mapping, Tax Assist, Flex Fields, and configuration. 
  • Research experience using Bloomberg or other similar tax research tool
