JOB SUMMARY:

To install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain machines, equipment, and facilities involving fabrication, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other types of applications of a varied nature to ensure reliable, consistent operations. In addition, this position will be required to have a current medical card allowing them to operate a commercial vehicle as well as a chauffeur’s license and perform all the duties as outlined in the Plant Service job description.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

Include the following. Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned.

  • Diagnose and analyze equipment and system failures, makes repairs if possible and recommends corrective actions if on site repairs cannot be made.
  • Designs, specifies, implements, and/or recommends solutions to mechanical and minor electrical problems.
  • Installs, dismantles, repairs, and reassembles equipment. Also ensures needed work instructions, safeguarding, and other safe work practices are implemented.
  • Performs work in mechanical skills areas which may include fabrication, assembly, welding, burning, cutting, and pipefitting.
  • Installs, dismantles, repairs and reassembles electrical related equipment and wiring associated with shop and facilities within Tenneco standards and scopes.
  • Uses mechanical and electrical tools, gauges, measuring, and test equipment.
  • Works from drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions. Knowledge of electrical schematics and basic blueprints preferred.
  • Maintains a preventative maintenance program and updates to mechanical equipment in the prototype shop and testing areas, as well as, for facility wide preventative maintenance measures.
  • Uses involved math (eg: algebra, geometry, and some trigonometry).
  • Maintains a working understanding of shop process equipment, systems, and facilities in order to perform maintenance effectively.
  • Operates equipment as necessary to troubleshoot problems and check work.
  • Directs work of helpers if required. Not a supervisory position.
  • Works in cooperation with facility management, facility supervisors, and outside the company personnel as required.
  • Maintains, organizes, and controls maintenance room, repair, and operating supplies.
  • Completes routine paperwork. Maintains PM records, equipment files, and other relevant information.

 

  • May be called upon to complete janitorial, plant service, and other types of duties essential to efficient facilities operation.
  • Performs other maintenance work and/or miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor and/or management

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Secondary education and/or relevant work experience preferred.
  • Should have a proven track record with the ability to perform problem solving skills and multi­ tasking in an ever changing environment.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts, and apply such with the use of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Strong ability to work effectively to deadlines, handle multiple tasks and adapt quickly to changes in environment.
  • Must have the ability to work in a self-directed environment.
  • Must have a safe work history.
  • Must be able to perform in a team environment and create own direction.
  • Must have the ability to work varying shifts and be able to respond to the facility quickly in an emergency situation.
  • Must have a valid chauffeur’s driver's license.
  • Must have currently have and maintain an MDOT medical card.
  • Working knowledge of passenger vehicle preventative maintenance requirements. (i.e., oil changes, tire rotations, licensing requirements, general maintenance coordination)

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in Machine Repair / Industrial Maintenance preferred.
  • Hydraulic and Pneumatic experience required.
  • Basic electrical experience required.
  • Capability of reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Computer competencies to include Microsoft Office and ability to navigate the Internet a plus.
  • 5 years’ experience efficiently and safely operating large delivery vehicles
  • 5 years’ experience efficiently and safely operating snowplow removal equipment including pick-up truck(s) and various size tractors
  • Ability to operate within shipping logistic portals to schedule freight shipments from domestic to international
