JOB SUMMARY: The Commodity Manager is responsible for an annual spend in excess of USD $80 million.  Manages the purchasing initiatives primarily for fibers, laminates and chemicals needed to support direct material purchases for the Systems Protection Business Unit of Tenneco.  Manage Global Direct Material spend activities. Serve as a leader for multiple purchasing projects with limited daily direction. Lead key vendor/supplier negotiations. Source and evaluate potential suppliers. Manage supply base and supplier relationships on a local, regional, and global level. Build out processes and systems to support better spend visibility & process compliance.   Serve as a technical expert resource for other Performance Solution business units to maximize benefits for Tenneco.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including relationship development.  Successful negotiation and contract execution experiences. MRP/ERP proficiency required and SAP experience preferred.  MS Excel proficiency, including Pivot Table's, V-Lookup's and Macro's preferred.
  • Ability to communicate strategies and solutions to colleagues and internal customers to achieve financial goals.
  • Research materials and suppliers utilizing expertise related to the commodities supported.
  • Prepare required documentation for supplier meetings and/ or negotiations.
  • Prepare and send RFQ/RFIs for commodity projects.
  • Maintain consistent communication with suppliers to ensure RFQ timelines are met and act as an interface between suppliers and engineering/operations/marketing to answer any questions related to RFQ documents.
  • Perform financial analysis of RFQ results to determine overall cost competitiveness and make sourcing recommendations based upon RFI and RFQ results.
  • Negotiate contracts based on country, region regulations.
  • Logistic and Inco terms knowledge.
  • This job will require travel within the US and to international locations.
  • Work autonomously while ensuring that all stakeholders are kept informed in a timely manner and adhering to company policy and procedure.
  • Perform analysis and provide recommendations to improve intercompany shipment practices and activities.
  • Capable of providing any other additional support as requested by supervisor.

 

 

EDUCATION:

  • B.S. degree in Logistic, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field is required.

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in Purchasing with preference towards direct materials; fibers laminates and related materials in high volume manufacturing related industries
  • Manufacturing experience preferably in a production control, logistics or material planning function.
