We are hiring a Supplier Development Specialist (Monroe Ride Solutions Unit) based in Celaya, Guanajuato (Parque Ciudad Industrial Celaya)The Supplier Development Specialist is responsible for strategic supply base development to improve Tenneco's supply base, including on-site supplier contact, maintaining and improving procedures and process design. Drives quality and productivity improvements at existing suppliers. Assesses new potential suppliers and works with new technology and new product launches and deploys standardized supplier quality management systems. Work with global commodity; engineering; customer teams; quality and operations of different Tenneco plants.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Implements the global purchasing supplier development strategies, establishes policies / procedures and initiatives to help improve the global supply base.
  • Support teams to identify new suppliers in alignment with Tenneco requirements.
  • Actively participates in sourcing decision-making reviews with Sourcing Teams.
  • Stays abreast with new and emerging technologies and applies knowledge of international business climate to help source suppliers in global markets.
  • Supports cross-functional launch teams by design/risk evaluations and technical supplier review meetings to assure form, fit, and function of product/assembly design intent.
  • Supports on-site supplier development to help suppliers improve their processes and achieve productivity performance goals.
  • Utilizes standard supplier assessment and evaluation tools. Conduct supplier assessments and evaluations. Follow-up on improvements as required.
  • Tracks and monitors supplier quality performance - supports BOS measurable.
  • Conducts supplier visits when required to improve Tenneco's supply base in order to drive productivity improvements at existing suppliers.
  • Supports global purchasing needs during supplier transitions, commodity and application teams for resourcing and new supplier launches.
  • Supports major internal and new customer projects initiated by Tenneco globally.
  • Supports Tenneco plants and businesses on major supplier delivery and -cost issues.
  • Facilitates timely implementation of permanent corrective action and resolution for supplier related issues.
  • Implements the global purchasing supplier development strategies.
  • Teach suppliers on various problem solving methodology (8D, 5Why's, Is is-not, etc.)
  • Prepare and present supplier performance data to management level
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability and skills to support supplier development activities, continuous improvement initiatives and quality management tools.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently, as needed to execute strategies to meet goals.
  • Strong team player with further demonstrated ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
  • Adept with IATF/VDA quality management (QMS) practices, metholdolgies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills. Proficiency in English preferred
  • Knowledge on methodologies such as Lean manufacturing & Six Sigma.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications.
  • Able to train on various problem solving methodologies (8D, 5Why's, Is isnot, etc.).

 

  • Qualifications:

 

  • Education / Certification:
  • Higher/University degree in business or technical discipline or equal by experience. Bachelor or master (prefer)
  • Work Experience:
  • 5+ years, quality, supply chain, engineering preferably in automotive manufacturing.
  • Specialized Skills / Knowledge:          
  • Strong technical expertise with ability to analyze and process highly complex technology / product requirements
  • Related Commodity/process experience (e.g., steel, stamping, forging, machining, casting, cold heading, rubber, plastic, heat treating, e-motors, hydraulic pumps, sensors, PCB, electro-magnetic actuators, cable and wire harnesses, controllers, pump & motor assemblies, and electromechanical products).
  • Good understanding of GD&T & able to read and interpret prints.
  • Experience with assessment and audits, IATF and / or ISO and VDA6.3 audit certification desired.
  • Knowledge on AIAG core tools - APQP, PFMEA, MSA, Control Plan, Process Capability, PPAP & Error proofing process training and practical experience required.
  • Six Sigma certification is a plus. (nice to have)
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Advanced PC skills required.
  • Must be able to work independent but also team player mentality.
  • Fluent in English, other languages are an asset.
  • Ability to travel is required. (estimated at 20% - 25%).
