The Manufacturing Engineering Technician will assist in the development of new processes, procedures and equipment in the manufacturing of spark plugs and ignition components which will include working closely with Manufacturing Engineering to produce prototype product in various quantities. The position will also provide technical support to both internal and external customers including product/application engineering, sales/marketing, advanced development and manufacturing.

The ME Tech will be responsible for the setup and operation of metalworking, assembly, test and inspection equipment used in the manufacturing of experimental and prototype and pre-production metal components, tools and assembled spark plugs.

 

To be very effective, the qualified applicant must be proficient at reading and interpreting product drawings, follow established work instructions and procedures to produce plug components, plug assemblies and finished product, inspect and measure components along with plug assemblies using various tools, micrometers, gages, and comparators to ensure they meet product print specifications. Find/build relationships with suppliers working closely to develop the needed accuracy and cost improvements to produce the highest quality samples to our customers. Additionally, the position requires the evaluation of tooling/machinery changes, CNC programs, print specifications and processes used in the development of new product and processes. Employees will be required to maintain various process sheets, production and quality/inspection records, other records as well as record/analyze data as required.  Work closely with ME in APD or IAD on DOE, PFMEA, DFMEA, and Spec writing. The position will work closely with other technicians, product and manufacturing engineers with little or no supervision and perform other duties as required.

 

Key requirements:

 

Tool Room, Machinist, Fabrication experience.

Working knowledge of GIBBS Cam, AutoCAD, Solid Works and Creo preferred.

Experience programing intricate tight tolerance components using a CNC Mill, Lathe, TRAK or EDM drilling machine.

EDUCATION:      

•             High School diploma or equivalent is required. 

•             Associate’s degree in Manufacturing / Mechanical Technology or related work experience in machine shop, tool and die making, metal cold forming or assembly.
