The Maintenance Technician B job classification is designed only to allow for the development of Maintenance Technician A associates within the 24 month time period and will be filled only for this purpose.


The Maintenance B Tech. will assist the Maintenance A Tech. in the following duties:  Assists in installing and repairing electrical systems, apparatus and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications, using handtools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment.  Assists in installing power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, such as programmable controllers, following electrical code and blueprints, using hand tools and voltage tester.  Participates in the diagnosis of malfunctioning apparatus motors, fixtures and PLCs using test equipment.  May replace faulty electrical components of machine, such as relays, switches and motors, and positions sensing devices using appropriate tools.  May replace electrical motor bearings and rewires motor.  May diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.

  • H.S. Diploma, or GED.


  • Minimum of 1 year or 40 hours complete in trade school towards a 2 year certificate or degree in electrical/electronics technology, or meets equivalent of 1 year trade school technical training education through special training programs which can be applied towards certificate or degree.


  • Successfully attain a 75% score, or better on the Maintenance Technician B exam. Maintenance Technician B will complete the Electricity Technology certificate or associate degree from accredited institution within 24 months of attaining the Technician B job.


  • When certificate or degree has been successfully completed the Technician B may be considered for promotion to the Technician A.


  • Ability to lift 50lbs. with assistance using proper lifting technique.
