Production Scheduler Supervisor – Tenneco Blacksburg, VA
Position Summary
The Production Scheduler Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all scheduling activities that support the efficient operation of the manufacturing facility. This role supervises the scheduling function, ensuring accurate production schedules, labor planning, material coordination, and resource alignment to meet customer demand, backlog priorities, and plant performance goals. The Production Scheduler Supervisor works closely with production, maintenance, materials, quality, and engineering to support a smooth and predictable manufacturing flow.
This position is also responsible for managing the scheduling of the Tray Room, the Union Order Launchers, and coordinating with other schedulers to ensure full alignment across all production departments.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the scheduling function for the plant, ensuring accurate daily, weekly, and long-range production schedules.
• Supervise and support schedulers in developing staffing plans, line assignments, and shift coverage based on operational needs.
• Oversee scheduling for Tray Room operations, ensuring proper staffing, material flow, and coordination with downstream production lines.
• Manage and schedule Union Order Launchers, ensuring compliance with job assignments and line requirements.
• Coordinate scheduling activities across all plant schedulers to maintain consistency and operational flow.
• Balance labor and production capacity with customer requirements, MOA schedules, and inventory levels.
• Adjust schedules proactively for downtime, material shortages, quality holds, changeovers, and staffing gaps.
• Communicate schedule changes promptly to production, engineering, maintenance, and materials teams.
• Work closely with production supervisors to align labor with skill sets, training levels, and line demands.
• Coordinate with maintenance for preventive maintenance and equipment repair scheduling.
• Partner with materials and logistics to ensure availability of components, packaging, and supplies.
• Monitor production performance and quickly address issues impacting schedule adherence.
• Maintain accurate master scheduling tools, dashboards, and reports.
• Track planned vs. actual output, staffing utilization, downtime, and capacity constraints.
• Identify trends and recommend improvements to enhance schedule accuracy and operational efficiency.
• Ensure data integrity within ERP systems and scheduling platforms.
• Evaluate and improve scheduling processes to reduce interruptions and increase accuracy.
• Standardize scheduling documentation and communication across shifts.
• Support CI activities related to manpower planning, line balancing, and production flow optimization.
• Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at reducing bottlenecks and increasing production predictability.
• Provide daily leadership, direction, and assistance to the scheduling team.
• Ensure consistent communication across all shifts.
• Support training and development of schedulers to enhance skills and effectiveness.
• Foster a strong culture of teamwork, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in production scheduling, operations planning, or manufacturing supervision.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, labor planning, and production flow (automotive preferred).
• Knowledge of Plex ERP system is required (navigation, scheduling modules, reporting, shop floor control).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and scheduling/ERP software.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and coordinate cross-functionally.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a high-demand, fast-paced manufacturing environment with frequent schedule changes.
