ABOUT THE ROLE
The Group Leader is responsible for supervising hourly direct and indirect labor employees and overseeing all manufacturing activities within assigned areas. This role ensures that available resources are utilized in the most efficient and cost-effective manner while maintaining compliance with standard work procedures, work instructions, quality standards, and safety requirements. The Group Leader supports production goals, promotes continuous improvement, and fosters a safe and productive work environment.

Work Environment:
- Unionized work environment in which disciplinary actions, work assignments, and other employment matters may be subject to review through the grievance process.
- Office environment includes, but is not limited to, artificial lighting, computer use, telephones, desk work, and temperature-controlled conditions.
- Manufacturing environment includes, but is not limited to, artificial lighting, exposure to machine and equipment noise, welding fumes, metalworking fluid mist, non-climate-controlled temperatures, and required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Occasional travel may be required, which could include overnight stays.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate continuous improvement by leading the attainment of shop-floor KPI’s to support the plant’s annual goals.
- Promote and enforce environmental, health, and safety regulations and maintain a clean, orderly, and organized floor in compliance with – and in support of – our 5-S Process for the specific purpose of reducing on-the-job injuries.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise the activities of assigned personnel to efficiently and productively meet production schedules and to hold employees accountable for their performance.
- Utilize available resources to meet customers’ needs and established quality standards.
- Administer and enforce Company policies and plant rules and issue discipline as appropriate, in conjunction and coordination with the Human Resources Manager.
- Ensure effective employee/labor relations in a union environment, treating employees with dignity and respect and handling first-step grievances through appropriate answers in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Continuously monitor equipment and coordinate operational issues with Maintenance to ensure optimal machine up-time and minimal downtime.
- Remain constantly vigilant for TVM opportunities and cost-reduction ideas and implement such actions that are deemed worthwhile in a timely manner.
- Participate in all applicable elements of the ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 standards to ensure the plant is continuously prepared for internal and external audits.
- Coordinate production schedules with Production Planning to ensure 100% on-time deliveries to the customer base.
- Administer labor cards daily.
- Immediately report workplace illnesses and injuries to EHS Manager & Human Resources.
- Understand roles and responsibilities during an emergency situation and be able to take control of the situation to protect property, personnel, and equipment.
- All other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED; college degree preferred.
- 2–5 years’ experience in manufacturing supervision or related activity.
- Flexibility and willingness to work any shift and/or split shifts.
- Work weekends as needed.
- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to occasionally travel on Company business, especially for training purposes.
